Fred,
To be on the safe side replace the belt! You would definetly not want to
risk the $3600 engine. A hint on getting a diesel started that has been
sitting is to first prime the injector pump with a small inline electric
pump like a gas model. Flaps have them, the pressure and volume are not
important as you will most likely be removing it once it's running. Let it
run untill fuel comes out the line going into the pump you have loosened.
Without doing this you will run down your battery and overheat your starter.
