'Morning All,
OK, here's the report from my Vanagon's recent Inspection.
End of this month I travel to Nevada for a week, then end of
October I leave for Mexico.  I need help prioritizing work to be done to
accomodate this schedule.  Especially:  what must be
completed before I leave end of August for a hot, desert drive?
Bear in mind that I asked for a *conservative* appraisal in line with my
preference for preventative/premtive maintenance.
        I also asked for their opinion of the causes of my vans occassional
loss of power/cutting out problem.  I got better help from the List
regarding this!  $75 got me two computer generated print outs from Alldata @
800-859-3282.  This tech service
bulletin listed my symptoms, then recommened a wiring harness,
which has been the recommendation of several list members who found relief
with this apparatus...
        Question:  when replacing coolant hoses, is it routinely recommended
that the back hoses be replaced, or is it normally enough to replace those
in the engine compartment.  I've had mixed opinions on this.

'85 Westy-Wolf

1  Needs transmission ground strap & battery ground cable.
2  Checked hesitation/deceleration prob:  needs updated throttle
    switch.
3  Battery charging system OK;  Alternator charging @ 14/80
    Amps.  (Is this OK?)
4  Front & rear shocks leaking
5  Needs front "A" arm bushings, left lower control, arm inner
    bushing.  Camber adjusting bushing bad.
6.  Front brake pads:  35% remaining & will need rotors.
     Rear brakes:  25% remaining
7.  Recommend all fuel hoses & coolant reservoir tank replaced.
     Needs fuel tank crossover pipe, grommets & fuel sender
     o-ring.  Possible fuel sender leaks.
8.  Recommend replacing all coolant.
9.  Recommend resealing all fittings on engine.
10.  Right inner & outer CV boot torn; Recommend disassemble,
      clean, & inspect all CV joints & replace all 4 CV boots.
11.  Auxiliary air valve  (I don't understand this comment)
12.  Main battery tray rusted thru & needs sheet metal work
                                            $$$
