Your VC actually went in the mail last Monday, Tim, so you should get it,
almost immediately. You got the very last one, actually, and one of two
that I was going to send right before my incredible accident delayed my
mailing plans. I always wanted to stay in a hospital as a kid, and was
mad that I never got the chance to do that, so this event was very
fulfilling even if it delayed my sending your viscous coupling.

As for the VCs for other list members, theoretically there will be
another pile of these for list members who want them in August. If you
want to be on the list of those that get notified when they come in, let
me know and I will email you later about them and we will find out how
many there are to go around. Every batch in the past sold out almost
immediately after they got here so it is good to tell me early.

Now....for the benefit of others on the list like dear Joel who wrote to
me asking about the accident, here is what happened:

A father pushed his 11 month old baby in a jogging stroller around a
tight corner directly into the path of my new mountain bike which was
going very fast. He couldn't see around the corner as he did this because
jogging strollers are very long so I could tell he was not going to stop.

I determined not to hit the baby and I knew I was going to pay for
this.

I stopped the bike in time and (it has disk brakes like on a car) but
went flying through the air about 7 feet. I landed 1 foot from the baby
on my right side on the pavement, at which point I broke both my femur
bone (lengthwise) and also my right elbow. The break was no ordinary one,
and I had a 5 hour surgery that very night, during which time they put 14
stainless steel screws along the length of my leg along with a giant
length of stainless steel plate to hold everything together.

I could hardly move for the next week and was otherwise in an extreme
state of trauma. I did enjoy the perks of this, however, intravenously,
which made my brain a bit cloudy but otherwise pleased, ...I think...if I
can remember correctly.

I had two more weeks of hospitalization for physical therapy training,
during which they generally hurt me and gave me a hard time, but I did
learn to do everything all over again, including give myself my own
shower. I still cannot walk at all, however so I am in a
wheelchair.

I have now resumed travel by Amtrak every Monday or Tuesday from my home
in Washington DC to New York where I am CEO of Internet company
www.ConsumerSearch.com.
It is too much bother to go home on the subways in New York, which are
not wheelchair accessible, so I just fall asleep at the office at night
next to the Seaport. I return on Amtrak to DC on Fridays after the
workday. Everyone is nice and helpful, so it is sort of fun to commute
this way between the cities all alone in a wheelchair.

On the streets of Manhattan when I got out I hear, "Look at that
dude all alone in a wheelchair!" which I find amusing as I feel
rather self sufficient.

The doctor says I will not be able to try walking again for another 8
weeks ago, and frowns when I talk of driving anything, even in my 84
Mercury Marquis, which is an automatic. I like this car because I always
imagine I am fat when I am driving it, but it actually belongs in the
dump and horrifies my wife.

ConsumerSearch raised $1.24 million and is about to close a series of
deals with major portals to be featured there, exposing our content to
millions of new visitors. We have begun the process of seeking another $5
million in funding, so if anyone knows of some investors who are looking
for a company going through a "valuation inflection point" now
is a good time to make a referral, suggestion, introduction.

Meanwhile, the 90 syncro camper is still in the garage. I have obtained
the 6.17 gears but have not installed them for want of 16 x 7.50 tires,
which I have not purchased because I still need to research and locate
suitable beadlocker style 16" wheels that look good and are strong.
These projects are proceeding steadily and glacially, and I don't think a
report on 16" wheels is the sort of thing ConsumerSearch.com is
going to get around to any time soon. Meanwhile, I have succumbed to the
relentless onslaught of synco Springs emails to the point that my brain
is utterly jelly and I am unable to resist joining the herd. Now within
the last day I got whiff of a special "lifting" run for those
of us who want an extra lift so I have actually no idea what I am going
to get in the mail from the whole thing.

My sister Lisa Drew (lisadrew@aol.com) is having her '87 syncro camper
retrofitted at Dennis Haynes' in Long Island with a Webasco sp? gasoline
coolant heater she bought from Ark Mirvus sp? in preparation for her big
trip to Alaska this August to begin her new life there as a university
professor teaching journalism. I told her about the bad press Ark had
gotten on the list last year and we had a good laugh about his getting
kicked off the list (which strikes me as extreme and counterproductive)
but it didn't dissuade her from buying the heater.

Lisa's boss actually also by coincidence has a Syncro Camper, and almost
fell off his seat when she mentioned that is what she owns one during the
job interview. Later on, she got the job offer, no doubt, in part,
because of her extreme good judgment.
I'm not trying to rush you, but I'm wondering if you have an
ETA on the VCs. I'm not in a huge hurry (though I might be buying a van
with a toast VC), but it would be nice to have something to tell my wife
who still can't get over the fact that I routinely send checks to people
I've met on the Internet ;-)

Again, no pressure. I really appreciate all you've done for
the syncro community. It really is good to have you back
some crazy off-road adventure!
Come on Stewart, go for 7.50x 16, or at least 7.00 x 16.

I'm going to, as soon as I can figure out what beadlocker wheels to buy!
